Twelve colorways is not a marketing number. It is the actual count of Ayo variants we carry, each one photographed front and in profile: twenty-four images on a single product page.
No other Anne et Valentin model in our range matches it except the Azur, which also runs to twelve. And that is not a coincidence — more on why in a moment.
The shape first
Anne et Valentin's description of the Ayo is the most precise piece of writing on their site: "AYO. A trapezoidal above and a panto below. Blissfully full of contradictions. Subtle geometry. Gently stretches the eye for an almost almond-shaped gaze. Awakens expressive personalities in search of themselves. Studious, committed. Expects the same."
Take the first two sentences literally and you have the frame. The top line is trapezoidal — straight, with a slight angle, the way a trapezoid's parallel sides do not match in length. The bottom is a panto, which is to say rounded. Two different geometries stacked, which is the "contradiction" they are pleased about.
The functional result is the almond effect: a straight line above the eye and a curve below it elongates the opening horizontally. It is a subtler move than a cat-eye lift and it reads as shape rather than as style.
The numbers

Within the Alpha frames we stock that is on the larger side — three millimetres more eye than the Angie and the Albertine, one more than the Alma 2. If the small Alpha models have felt undersized on you, the Ayo is the obvious next size up in the same $385 bracket.

Every one of the twelve is currently a special order rather than shelf stock. That is worth saying plainly rather than burying: you cannot walk in today and try an Ayo on. What you can do is order any of the twelve, and because Anne et Valentin produce to order in Toulouse, none of them is "sold out" in the sense of being gone.
The tortoise family
Five of the twelve are tortoise-based, each with a different second colour worked into the laminate: Tortoise/Pink (21A33), Tortoise/Blue (25A28), Tortoise/Yellow (25A29), Tortoise/Orange (25A32) and Tortoise/Beige (9A22), plus the solid Dark Tortoise (25A27). From across a room they all read as tortoise. Up close, the second colour is the whole difference.
The solid colours
Red (1246), Purple (25A30) and Green (25A31) are the unambiguous ones. On a 48 mm frame with a straight top line, a saturated solid colour has real presence — this is the Alpha line's "life in color rather than black and white" argument at full volume.
The two-tone combinations
Olive/Pink (20A41), Purple/Green (24A19) and Black/Speckled Crystal (24A18) are the most deliberate of the twelve. The speckled crystal in particular is a different kind of material effect: flecks suspended in a clear body rather than a colour laid through it.
Why Ayo and Azur share colour codes
If you compare the Ayo's twelve codes against the Azur's, most of them match. That is not a data error. Anne et Valentin's colour codes identify the acetate laminate, not the model — so the same sheet can be cut into several different Alpha shapes. You can verify it on the brand's own site: 21A33 appears under the Angie, the Albertine, the Ayo and the Azur alike.
Which is genuinely useful when you are shopping. If a colour is right but the shape is not, ask whether that laminate exists on a shape that fits you. It often does.
