Virgo harks back to an optimistic, mid-century moment when the future looked so bright that we had to wear shades! In Europe, cinema’s newest stars—think Bardot and Lollobrigida—would slip on sunglasses like these while relaxing on the beaches of the Côte d’Azur and Deauville. Across the Atlantic, a radical Pop-Art scene blossomed with exciting, new visions from audacious young talents like Warhol and Lichtenstein, who relied on the bold shapes, pops of bright color and dot-matrix patterns echoed by Virgo. Virgo’s impressively sculpted full-acetate face builds on new color possibilities that are just as eye-catching as those seen on ‘60s screens and canvases, with strong black, powerful orange and an enticing grey-pink swirl fronts perfectly framed by striking lines of contrasting enamels.
